Psychological MOT

We don't always understand what's troubling us inside, let alone what to do about it. Deep down, part of us senses that something isn't quite right, but we can't work out why or what to do about it.
If that sounds familiar, welcome to the human club. You may be wondering what's going on beneath the surface. Whether therapy would help or whether there's another way forward. What would feeling better even look like?
We routinely make time to review and maintain our gadgets, homes and finances. Yet we rarely give the same attention to examining how we're functioning psychologically and emotionally.
The Psychological MOT was designed to do just that.
What is a Psychological MOT?
Two extended, 75-minute sessions, around a fortnight apart, offering enough time and space to explore what's happening in your life, what might be contributing to it and what could help. Together, we'll reflect on your experiences, relationships, strengths, challenges and the patterns you've developed along the way.
Because the things that trouble us in the present often have a story behind them. Understanding that story can be the beginning of meaningful change.
How does it work?
Session One: Exploring your experience - An in-depth session about what brought you here, what's happening in your life and what you'd like to better understand. There's no need to arrive with the right words or a clear explanation.
Session Two: Making sense of it - Between sessions, I'll reflect on our conversation and consider the themes and patterns that may be shaping your current experience. We'll then meet again to discuss these reflections, consider what they might mean and explore possible ways forward.
Personalised Summary
Following our second session, you'll receive a personalised, one-page summary of reflections and suggested next steps, covering:
-
Themes and patterns we've identified
-
Strengths and resources you can draw upon
-
Suggestions for what might help you move forward
Is this right for me?
You don't need to be in crisis to benefit. A Psychological MOT may be helpful if you:
-
Feel stuck or uncertain about what to do next
-
Keep noticing patterns you'd like to understand or change
-
Are navigating significant life changes
-
Are curious about yourself but unsure whether therapy is right for you
-
Simply want to take stock of where you are in life
What happens afterwards?
You may decide to begin therapy, explore reflective sessions, seek another form of support or simply take what you've discovered into your everyday life. There's no expectation of further work together. The intention is to leave you with a clearer, more compassionate understanding of yourself and a better sense of what you might need.
Often the most meaningful shift is moving from:
"What's going wrong with me?" to
"What's happened to me, and what do I need now?"
Fees £300 – Includes two 75-minute sessions, reflective preparation and your personalised summary.
Getting started - I offer a free 20-minute introductory conversation to explore whether this feels like the right kind of support.
I'm a registered member of the bacp (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and adhere to their code of ethical conduct.
